The Subconscious Mind

Understanding the functions and traits of your subconscious mind, as well as how to deal with it to make it your best assistant, executer, and autopilot gives you the keys to massively transform your life and achieve things that were beyond your most beautiful imagination.

The subconscious mind is the driving force behind all conscious and unconscious actions in our lives. Being able to direct it by reprogramming it by communicating it clearly what you want, desire and love is the bridge to all your desires and goals, when you also do the right actions that lead to what you program into your subconscious mind.

In order to get a deeper understanding of the power that knowing about the subconscious mind and using this knowledge contains, here are some quotes about the subconscious mind:

“Whatever we plant into our subconscious mind and nourish with repetition and emotion will one day become a reality.” – Earl Nightingale

“The subconscious mind is ruled by suggestion, it accepts all suggestions – it does not argue with you – it fulfills all your wishes.” Dr. Joseph Murphy

“The subconscious mind is the guiding force for your entire life.” – Kevin Michel

“Our subconscious minds have no sense of humor, play no jokes and cannot tell the difference between reality and an imagined thought or image. What we continually think about eventually will manifest in our lives.” – Robert Collier

“Our thoughts are mainly controlled by our subconscious, which is largely formed before the age of 6, and you cannot change the subconscious mind by just thinking about it. That’s why the power of positive thinking will not work for most people. The subconscious mind is like a tape player. Until you change the type, it will not change.” – Bruce Lipton

“It is psychological law that whatever we desire to accomplish we must impress upon the subjective or subconscious mind.” – Orison Swett Marden

“What you think, you become. What you feel, you attract. What you imagine, you create.” – Buddha

“The reason man may become the master of his own destiny is because he has the power to influence his own subconscious mind.” – Napoleon Hill

There are several metaphors that describe what the subconscious mind is like and does. Everyone has probably heard of Freud’s Iceberg Modell.

Here are two other ones:

The computer program

You can think of the subconscious mind as the program which is running in the background of everything that you can see on a computer screen. When you change the program you change what you see on the screen. What you see is created by the unseen. In order to change the programme, you need to know the coding language. Otherwise, you cannot change the programme.

The garden of your life

The garden contains all your thoughts, feelings, emotions, beliefs, everything that you experienced so far in your life, as well as all your programs that make you run 95 % of the day subconsciously. Unless you are mindful all the time.

The garden has someone who is deciding which belief of reality is getting into the garden and which doesn’t. His name is R.A.S. Reticular Activating System. During the day it is very awake and does a good job of not letting new beliefs of reality into the garden. But in very relaxed and tranquil moments and in the morning right after waking up or right before falling asleep the RAS doesn’t do a proper job. In those moments you can sneak inside the garden to plant the seeds of your current and favorite desires, wishes, and goals.

„Reality is merely an illusion.. albeit a very persistent one.“ – Albert Einstein

Before we get into the functions and traits of your subconscious mind, we take a look at which areas of your life are influenced by it.

  • Your reactions and behavior patterns.
  • Your attitudes and convictions.
  • Your perception. (!)
  • The meaning you choose to give the things that happen.
  • Your performance and personal achievements.
  • Your general well-being and health.

Pretty influential. But it is also pretty influenceable when you know the important aspects to keep literally in your mind to do so successfully.

But let’s stick to what it’s diverse and ridiculous amount of functions are:

  • It stores all feelings, memories, perceptions, convictions, motives, etc.
  • It is your brain and body’s autopilot system.
  • Works on solutions to your issues while you sleep or don’t consciously do think about it.
  • It filters according to your conscious and subconscious beliefs and expectations.
  • It digests for you, breathes for you, keeps your blood and all other systems in your organism going.
  • Deals with many millions of Bits of information per second. Your conscious mind only receives about a maximum of 40 Bits.
  • Overtakes conscious and learned procedures.
  • Habits. Mental, emotional and practical ones.
  • Likes patterns and has, therefore a tendency for having prejudices.
  • Creativity.
  • Executes commands.
  • Remembers things.
  • Works on where the focus lies.
  • Uses previous experiences and stores them.
  • Recognizes emergency and danger.
  • Reacts to danger.
  • Brings you home when you’re too drunk.
  • Pattern recognition.
  • Internalized Reflexes.
  • Reaction to danger.
  • Explicit and implicit memory.
  • Procedural or Muscle Memory.
  • Priming.
  • Face memory.
  • Cellular memory.
  • Guidance system.
  • Goal-oriented.
  • Subliminal.
  • Supraliminal.

What your Consciousness does and deal with:

  • Knowing about one’s own existence. Consciousness of being.
  • Rules.
  • Goals.
  • Tasks.
  • Data.
  • Planning.
  • Will Power.
  • Critical Thinking.
  • Short term memory.
  • Judgments.
  • Decisions.
  • Daily tasks.
  • Learning.
  • Conscious perception.
  • Analyses.
  • Logical thinking.

Some traits and features of your subconscious mind:

  • Learns from repetitions.
  • Cannot differentiate between “Don’t look at it” and “Look at it.” It just goes with the focus.
  • Responsible for the automatic feelings you get when facing a new situation.
  • The subconscious mind can make 10 million observations. Conscious mind only about 40.
  • It cannot think logically. It isn’t rational. It just follows the focus without judging if sth. is positive or negative, good or bad, empowering or destroying, healthy or unhealthy.
  • All meaningful decisions are made on the subconscious level!
  • The subconscious reacts to the impressions sent by the conscious mind and stays unaffected by logical considerations. If the conscious mind accepts sth. as true, the subconscious mind does so too. If the conscious mind changes its opinion, it takes a while for the subconscious, to follow.
  • It loves images.
  • When something is imagined intensively and in detail, it cannot tell if it is reality or fantasy.

How to deal with your subconscious mind:

  • Make it your partner, assistant, and autopilot by working with it and programming it. If you don’t get your subconscious mind on your boat, it will make you think, perceive, feel, act, react and do things that don’t lead as fast and comfortable as possible to the realization of your desires, goals, and dreams in life.
  • Use auto-suggestion techniques like affirmations and visualizations in the moments your RAS isn’t paying a lot of attention; right after waking up and right before going to sleep.
  • It needs clear commands and goals. The clearer you know what you want, be or do, the easier and faster your subconscious mind can understand it to help you.
  • Be careful which beliefs you use and believe to be true.
  • Everything you consume by internet, news, social media, Music, TV, conversations with others or yourself, thoughts – all comes in one way or another out of your subconscious mind again. You feed it with all the data, information, feelings, motives, expectations, and opinions you held. If you held sth. negative, you program sth. negative into the program of your subconscious mind.
  • The more you focus on everything you want and love to be, have or do, the better and healthier you and your life become.
  • Your subconscious mind can help you to create and live your heaven on earth or to create and live your personal hell on earth. Depending on what you think, feel and imagine yourself, your life and every situation you’re in.

Most people ignore the power and existence of their subconscious mind. It is the reason why certain things or changes just don’t happen in their life or why they tend to always end up again in certain undesired situations.

When your subconscious mind doesn’t have properly understood yet what you want to do, have or be, it won’t make you do, be or have those things.

Be smart. Therefore:

“Never go to sleep without a request to your subconscious mind.” – Thomas Edison
